Final Hooray in London – Third Place for Lucas di Grassi!

The grand finale of the Formula E championship featured two breath-taking races in London last Saturday and Sunday. This innovative FIA championship is exclusively geared towards electric-powered race cars promoting innovation and sustainability, two key values that the Warsteiner Brewery is proud to support with its engagement in the Audi Sport ABT Formula E team. With races held around the globe, from China, Malaysia, Uruguay, Argentina, the United States, Monaco, Germany, Russia to the UK, WARSTEINER circled the world together with the team and its fans.

The double-header started off with typical British weather: rain in the morning, which added some additional spice to the season-ending race in London’s Battersea Park, the first ever (official) street circuit. But the weather did not dampen the spirits of thousands of excited fans lining the challenging track of the ePrix, closely watching three drivers in particular who were in hot pursuit for the title: Lucas di Grassi, Nelson Piquet Jr. and Sébastien Buemi.

Over the course of the two races, the drivers had to master some tough challenges including heavy braking zones, tight chicanes as well as a significant crown on the road, which added to the excitement by keeping the race unpredictable. When the checkered flag dropped, Nelson Piquet Jr. had secured his championship title, followed by Sébastien Buemi, while the Audi Abt Sports team driver, Lucas di Grassi, scored a brilliant third place in the overall 2014/15 driver ranking.

With a highly successful inaugural championship in the rearview mirror, the outlook for next season holds the promise to be more exciting due to some upcoming rule changes: the teams will be allowed to change the powertrain (the inverter, gearbox, cooling system and motor). And in two years for the 2016-17 season, one expects that proprietary battery systems will be deployed by each team lasting an entire race.
As the official sponsor of the Audi Sport ABT Formula E team, WARSTEINER congratulates Lucas di Grassi for his fantastic 3rd place in this first ePrix season. Congratulations also go to Daniel Abt, the second driver of the Audi ABT motor sports team for his 11th place as well as to the entire team for its impressive 3rd place in the team ranking. Celebrating this fantastic championship, the Warsteiner Brewery toasted the team with a refreshing WARSTEINER Fresh on location! Everyone is already looking forward to another successful season in 2015/16!
